About the Backbending workshop
Bending, flexing, twisting, and extending, moving the spine in all directions it can, is healthy, if done mindfully and within a safe range.
Extending the spine (Backbending) might seem “unnatural,” but it has many benefits… and it is highly recommended to counteract the detrimental effects of our predominantly flexion-based lifestyles.
Yoga backbending poses are great ! There are many variations accessible to all body types and levels of flexibility. As with all yoga postures, backbending is beneficial when it feels “good” to be in the pose — meaning stable, spacious… and when the nervous system can relax
How do we approach backbending? How do we create stability? How do we establish optimal alignment? And how do we move safely in and out of each posture? During this two-session workshop, we will explore all of these aspects, looking at the anatomy of the spine and moving into the postures while building strength and stability, and inviting a healthy, spacious opening through different regions of the spine.
All levels are welcome.
