Strong Foundations & Flowing Energy

The spine is our inner pillar—the central support of the body and a vital pathway of awareness. In yoga, its significance extends beyond the physical form into the subtle and energetic realms. The sushumna nadi aligns with the axis of the spine and is the central energy channel into which the yogi seeks to consciously draw prana (life force), allowing it to flow freely, inviting balance and clarity throughout the system.
Whether one identifies as a yogi or not, understanding the natural curves of the spine, how it moves and articulates, and how to care for it is essential. Cultivating mindful posture in daily life, as well as in movement, workouts, and asana practice, supports both physical ease and energetic harmony.
In this workshop, we will learn about the anatomy of the spine and move into backbending postures from the Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga Primary and Intermediate Series. We will explore a range of variations, progressing from accessible foundations to more advanced expressions, making the practice inclusive for all levels and bodies. With mindful attention, we will backbend safely and consciously, building strength and stability while inviting a healthy, spacious opening through different regions of the spine.
